What happens when do-gooder, ex-hippie parents find themselves in the Reagan-Era Midwest with a radically conservative son and an obsessed shopper for a daughter? Hilarity! No-one could have guessed how warmly America would receive this timely, mid-80s sit-com. Intelligent and socially aware, while still managing to be reliably wacky and funny, Family Ties invited us into the home of real people and let us laugh and live with them.By far the show's stand-out was Alex P. Keaton. Michael J. Fox's energized, appealing portrayal of this ambitious Young Republican created one of the all-time classic comedy characters. Brilliant TV from the era of Cheers and The Cosby Show, this is great entertainment that will remind you how enjoyable funny, smart programs are.
