1uz 4x4 Hilux / Surf Auto

So you are building a Toyota Hilux or Hilux Surf using a Lexus 1uz V8 and want to run it as an auto and you are not sure how to do it. I can help

The modern transmissions are all computer controled and they have to be mechanically and electronically matched otherwise they will not work correctly or will not work at all. Even disconnecting all the electonics and trying to manually shift will not work as they wont have all the gears. To manually shift correctly and get all gears they need a basic transmission control unit.

I have been building 1uz-fe conversions for about 7 years now and have seen and fixed quite a few problem auto setups. Now many Toyota transmissons share bellhousing patterns so it is possible to bolt a 1jz , 2jz , Hiace , Surf , Cressida , chaser auto up to a 1uz by changing the bellhousing. The problem is all these gearboxes are electronically controlled so they don’t work without their factory ECT or ECU/ECT unit and all the correct factory signals getting to this unit.

Many 130 EFI diesel surfs have a separate ECT but it gets a signal from the engine ECU so as soon as the diesel motor is removed the gearbox goes into failsafe mode so will not shift at the correct time and short shifts second.

There is a lot if incorrect information on the internet regarding this topic and much of it is incorrect or not complete. Many people do not address the correct oil feeds in the gearbox.

Now I have a solution. Send us your factory 1uzfe automatic (A341E or A341LE) along with a VF2A transfer case, gearbox spacer and the bolts. This transfer can be found on LN130, RN130 , YN130 surf autos and some others.

We will mate the two together and with the correct sensors and ensure correct oil flow to the rear bearing using the special adaptor which we have developed. With our setup the 1uzfe engine and gearbox is simply wired correctly the gearbox will operate like a factory one.
