Dynometer, motorcycles

Description

This is a dyno made by a Whangarei company in the '70s. It's rated up to 50 horse power so is suitable for AJS,BSA, Norton and Triumph classic racers and road bikes also smaller post classics. The bike powers a hydraulic pump, the output is controlled by a hand operated valve. This brakes the engine and the horsepower is read out on the large dial. The smaller dial indicates the drums revs. Readings are very close to results we've had on Dynojets. We've mostly used it to set up carburetion and as a rolling road. There are two problems with it. The control is stiff making it hard to do subtle movements, this may need a longer lever or possibly some sort of worm and wheel arrangement. There is no starter mechanism, we always meant to do something with a car starter motor but real life intruded. The dyno's in Palmerston North,is pretty heavy and you'd need to arrange transport.
