Renault Other 5TS 1983
Description
Renault 5 Phase 1 built 1983 in Toyota Factory Johannesburg South Africa. Brought to New Zealand as a private import, I believe, went through all required checks and registered but then stored in a shed for approx. 17 Years after the engine bearings were run to due lack of oil change and consequent clogging of oil pump suction screen. The car was sent off to an Auckland wrecking yard who refused to scrap it due to its pristine body etc. As a Renault enthusiast I obtained the car and built up a new short motor. Whilst I had the car apart I could not find any sign of rust at all. Its paint is still completely original. The only defects on the body are a couple of shallow dents, probably due to stropping on the trip to the wreckers. Re vinned after rebuild with a New Zealand VIN number due to a mistake made during the original New Zealand certification. 1397cc engine basically brand new short block although the head was reused and may require valve guides and seals attending to in the future as it does occasionally blow a little smoke on hot starts. Oil consumption is negligible over a 1000K usage. 5 Speed gearbox, clutch like new and new release bearing fitted with engine. Mechanical fuel pump replaced with electric pump. All tyres nearly new. Reason for sale. Too many cars and old age leading to disposal of assets. There are some spare parts available from a second car. Open to offers from successful bidder.
