Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1964
Description
The Type 34 Karmann Ghia is an extremely rare car, partly because it was the most expensive model produced by VW in the 1960s (25% more than the rounded Type 12 KG), and also because its styling was too radical for many buyers 50 years ago. The Type 34 was based on the VW 1500 notchback series, whereas the Type 12 used the original Beetle mechanicals.
This example was manufactured as a RHD car, leaving the factory on 3rd Sept 1964, but has covered just 1600 miles since a bare-metal restoration, as follows,
Body - stripped and dipped (see photo) and bare-metal respray. 2.5 litres of Waxoyl sprayed into doors, sills, inner guards etc.
Interior - re-upholstered in red leather, new door cards, headlining and carpets.
Running gear - upgraded to front disc brakes and trailing arm rear suspension as per the 1967/8 Type 34 Karmann Ghias.
Wheels and Tyres - Empi 8-spoke alloys with Michelin tyres (1600 miles from new)
Engine - 1770cc with twin-port heads and Gene Berg high-lift rocker gear. Twin 40mm Dellorto carbs. Crane electronic ignition. Empi remote-mounted oil filter.
Please come and inspect/test-drive for yourself before bidding. Car is located in Howick (Log-in to obtain phone number)
