Health Care Assistant – Terrace View Retirement Village Location: Ashburton, New Zealand Reports to: Facility Manager, Clinical Care Manager, Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse Hours: As rostered (includes weekdays, weekends, and public holidays)

About the Role:

As a Health Care Assistant (HCA), you will play a vital role in supporting residents to maintain their dignity, independence, and quality of life through a holistic approach to care. You will be part of a close-knit, supportive team that values empathy, professionalism, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

-Provide personal care and assistance with daily living activities, encouraging independence wherever possible. -Respect and support residents’ spiritual, cultural, and emotional needs. -Maintain residents’ dignity, privacy, and self-esteem at all times. -Ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents. -Communicate effectively with residents, their families, and the care team. -Accurately document care provided, progress notes, and incidents. -Follow emergency procedures and uphold Terrace View’s philosophy and policies. -Participate in regular in-service training, staff meetings, and quality assurance programmes. -Support new initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and risk management processes. -Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes: -A qualification in aged care (e.g., National Certificate in Support of the Older Person) or willingness to obtain one. -ACE Dementia Training (NZQA Units 23920, 23921, 23922, 23923) or commitment to complete these. -Current First Aid Certificate or commitment to obtaining one. -Understanding of the aging process and associated care needs. -Strong communication and listening skills. -Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. -Empathy, patience, and a respectful, resident-centred approach to care. -Good organisational skills with flexibility to adapt to residents’ changing needs.
