Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato (Waikato District Council) serves a large and diverse area, key towns include Raglan, Huntly, Ngaaruawaahia, Tuakau and Te Kauwhata. Smaller settlements include Gordonton, Matangi, Tamahere, Meremere, Port Waikato and Pookeno.
Our Head office in Ngaaruawaahia is an open plan hot desking environment, it includes a collab space as well as unique areas to work or meet with colleagues, Waikato River walks and the chance to hit the Hakarimatas on your lunch break. Due to an internal promotion, we have an opportunity for a Fixed Term People Advisor to join our People Team. Our People Advisors are the first point of contact for any HR-related queries from people leaders & employees, and support our people leaders to work within our processes and systems to support their teams in the best possible way.
As our People Advisor, you will:
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive and People Leaders
- Coach, advise and facilitate the development of everyday leadership capability to empower our leaders to provide a great employee experience.
- Support the annual remuneration review and any requests for job-sizing
- Work with the People Business Partner to deliver the People Plan for business unit/s and any relevant change projects that may be required.
- Be collaborating with the wider People & Capability Team, as well as other teams across Council to ensure processes, governance and frameworks are considered and worked in line with.
- Deliver clear advice and support with employment relations matters.
- And so much more, as no two days are ever the same in the People Team!
You will bring to the role:
- A can-do attitude, and an ability to embrace change.
- A team player mindset with a willingness to give and receive feedback in a constructive manner
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in HR, with at least 3 years operating at an advisory level.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing people processes and practices.
- A commitment to Zero Harm and keeping yourself and others in the workplace safe.
- An understanding of, or the desire to learn about, te ao Maaori and tikanga.
- Knowledge, or a willingness to gain an appreciation, of te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ture Whaimana.

Hours of work: 40 Hours per week
