Our client is a well-established, family-owned engineering firm with over 75 years in the industry. They operate across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific, specialising in the design, manufacture, and maintenance of complex engineering systems, including large-scale custom fabrication and industrial equipment. With over 90 staff and a newly built, state-of-the-art facility in Upper Hutt, they are one of the region’s most capable engineering workshops. They also have an Auckland service centre and teams based at major airports in Australia.
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Plasma Cutter Operator to join a busy and well-established workshop team. This is a practical, hands-on role where you’ll operate a plasma cutting machine to process various materials and support the production of custom metal products, including air bridges. You’ll also assist across general workshop duties, including deliveries and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the plasma cutter to meet customer specifications
- Support the manufacturing and production of bespoke metal products
- Assist tradespeople as needed
- Operate a guillotine and forklift (training provided if required)
- Help with pickups, deliveries, and general workshop tasks
- Follow health and safety procedures and keep work areas clean
- Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in a workshop or fabrication environment (plasma cutting preferred)
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Willingness to learn and upskill – training is available
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Full Driver’s licence
- Current Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong attention to detail and pride in your work
- Focus on safety, quality, and cleanliness
