Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Programmer/Operator with expertise in 5-axis timber machining to program, set up, and operate CNC machines for high-quality timber products. The ideal candidate will have experience in both programming and operating 5-axis machines and a strong understanding of woodworking.
We have a brand-new Accord 500 5-axis machine (plus two 3-axis machines) and are looking for the right person with the right experience who is excited to produce one-off and bespoke items for some exciting projects. You will need to be able to problem-solve and come up with solutions to make the designs work! No two days will be the same, so if you want to get away from the monotony of factory production, we would love to talk!
In addition to experienced CNC operators, we are also open to considering recent graduates or individuals with a background in Industrial and/or Commercial Design who are highly proficient with drawing programs such as Rhino, SolidWorks, and other CAD-based software. If you’re a design-savvy problem solver with a passion for bringing complex forms to life, we’d love to hear from you.
You must be a team player, honest, and reliable five days a week, and punctual. You should also be willing to assist with other tasks and duties when required, as we are a close-knit team and help out where needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drawing: Proficient with drawing programs such as Rhino and SolidWorks
- Programming: Write and optimize CNC programs using CAM software (prefer knowledge with AlphaCAM software which we run or are a quick learner!) for 5-axis timber machining as well as 3-axis machining.
- Machine Setup/Operation: Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machines, ensuring correct tooling and calibration for precise results.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read technical drawings to develop machining plans and ensure accurate production.
- Quality Control: Inspect parts for accuracy, make adjustments to meet specifications, and maintain high-quality standards.
- Maintenance/Support: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure smooth machine operation.
- Tool Management: Oversee tool inventory and ensure the right tools are in good condition for machining.
- Safety: Follow all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Ideally a minimum of 5 years of CNC programming/tooling (including knowing how to design and draw) and operation experience, with a focus on 5-axis timber machining.
OR Have a background in Industrial and/or Commercial Design who is highly proficient with drawing programs, preferably Rhino - Skills: Proficiency in CAM software (preferably AlphaCAM software) and CNC machine operation. Strong understanding of timber machining processes.
- Detail-Oriented: Ability to read plans and CAD files to create precise machining programs.
- Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve machine and programming issues.
- Safety: Knowledge of CNC machine safety and maintenance protocols.
Preferred:
- Must be a team player, honest, reliable 5 days a week and be punctual.
- CNC training in woodworking/machining.
- Experience with different types of timber, plywood and MDF
- Be able to help with other tasks/duties when required
- Industrial, Product or Commercial Designer who is highly proficient with drawing programs, preferably Rhino
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods.
