Timaru Site Manager – Freshpork NZ (Based in Timaru)
Freshpork NZ is a family-owned business, passionate about producing quality stock feed and New Zealand pork products. We have been delivering New Zealand pork to Kiwis for over 40 years and are the country’s leading pork specialist. With over 150 staff operating from 4 sites, we are committed to the long-term sustainability of the NZ pig industry, through continual investment, innovative processing and products that provide fresh, high quality NZ pork products to New Zealanders.
Our Timaru production facility is New Zealand’s largest pork specialist abattoir and butchery operation. Our dedicated team of over 65 staff process around 4,000 pigs per week that come from farms throughout North Otago and Canterbury.
About the role: Reporting to the General Manager of National Production, and together with the Production Manager and a team of Supervisors you will manage the site through planning and direction to ensure day-to-day production activities are carried out in an efficient, safe and fully compliant manner. You’ll oversee all aspects of the processing plant including supply chain management, animal welfare, slaughter and boning operations, and our plant maintenance program.
You’ll understand and manage the balance between production throughput, food safety compliance, and the health, safety and wellbeing of our people. You will be a proven leader able to motivate and inspire teams. Your hands-on approach will see you on the production floors throughout each day, supporting and influencing staff and leading by example.
In this high impact role, your keen eye for strategic planning and commercial management, together with your ability to prioritise and plan ahead in a fast-paced environment, will enable you to meet the core objectives of the role.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- As an experienced Senior Manager in manufacturing management in the meat industry, you’ll have a fusion of excellent managerial, technical and interpersonal skills.
- Proven experience leading a team to succeed and enhancing a cohesive continuous improvement culture.
- Be forward thinking, a proven planner with keen problem-solving skills and excellent time management.
- Analyse and critically assess where efficiency can be improved; and take action.
- Excellent communication both verbal, non-verbal and through negotiations, using your active listening to enable your team and share success across the business.
- Dedication to ensuring high standards of quality control and health and safety.
- Computer and numerical literacy and be competent in MS Office suite, particularly excel.
