The late Els Noordhof lived from 1924- 2013.Els’s work has been exhibited both internationally and nationally. Her work is held in many private and corporate collections. Els held many Awards and Commissions in New Zealand . With a long history of painting, drawing and illustration Els Inspired , taught and worked alongside many NZ Artists.

A contemporary and friend of the late Doris Lusk and Olivia Spencer Bower( whom she painted) she was also friend to the late Ralph Hotere, and taught with Colin McCahon in the 70’s amongst a myriad of other artists.

Els worked in a variety of media in including Oils, Gouache, Pastel, Watercolour and Printing. Els studied at the Kemmerer Lyceum and later Studied at the Rijks Museum Academy in Amsterdam Holland. Arriving in Dunedin in 1966 Els worked with like minded Artists and her portrait of James K Baxter is one of several of her works held in the Hocken collection. The Alexander Turnbull Library also holds her work.

Els's visual language was imbued with light and an enquiring perspective .Els worked and exhibited her Artwork Internationally, and throughout New Zealand. For Dunedin City she was the Artist representative in the Sister City Exhibition in Otaru Japan.
