Small card covered book in good condition 1st edition 1994 67 pages The play was derived from Henrik Ibsen's play 'The Vikings at Helgeland'. 'New Zealand Playscripts'.
The play was first presented in Wellington in 1994. It is set on a Marae on the East Coast in 1919, when a soldier Taneatua, returns from the war. He is seen as a hero, but is weary of war. He and his wife, Te Wai, visit Te Wai's father, Paikea, a Rangatira. Amongst the others there to welcome him back is Paikea's niece, Rongomai, who is out for the revenge of her father's murder ......... Hone Kouka, of Ngati Porou, Ngati Raukawa, and Ngati Kahungunu descent, achieved early recognition for his cutting edge plays and he was the youngest playwright to win the Bruce Mason Playwriting Award in 1992. He is also a short story writer, poet, children’s writer, and actor.
