Description
This is the book that Sebastian Junger began writing before he struck gold with sea tragedy chronicle The Perfect Storm.
Paperback, 2001, Fourth Estate publishers. In good condition apart from some wear to the cover, especially on top right (see picture)
Wandering the globe, it opens with a dramatic account of a forest fire complete with accounts of fires moving at incredible speeds and the details about working as a fire-fighter, parachuting into the action on about $11 an hour. Later in the book there are pieces on the diamond trade in Sierra Leone, guerrilla warfare in Afghanistan, and whale hunting in the Carribean.
As the publishers say: 'Sebastian Junger has made a specialty of bringing to life the drama of nature and human nature. Few writers have been to so many disparate and desperate corners of the globe. Fewer still have met the standard of great journalism more consistently. None has provided more starkly memorable evocations of extreme events. ...this collection of Junger's reporting will take readers to places they need to know about but wouldn't dream of going on their own.
I am happy to combine postage with other items.
