Description

An oldie still working!! Comes with carry case, manual, disks. Great condition.

From the New York Times in 1986.....

Gas plasma display technology is still expensive, and I was not expecting to see it incorporated soon into any reasonably priced microcomputer system, when, lo and behold, on my desk appeared a Panasonic ''Exec. Partner'' ($2,595 with two floppy disk drives).

What really makes it shine is the high-contrast gas plasma display with its light orange characters on a dark orange background. It is responsive and flicker-free, with all the pixels sharp and precise. In text mode the screen resolution, 640 by 400 pixels, is good. The display measures 11 inches diagonally.

The slim display unit can be tilted to reduce light reflection for more comfortable reading.

The Exec. Partner weighs 28 pounds. The printer uses thermal transfer technology.

The function keys are aligned horizontally along the top of the unit rather than being clustered at the left-hand side of it, which may offend some users, again because of what is familiar to them. The feel of the keyboard, on the other hand, is very good. The Return, Shift and Backspace keys are all nicely oversized, although the Left-Shift key is in the same forlorn position it occupies on the IBM PC keyboard.

One particularly nice feature of the machine involves depressing the Ctrl-Alt-Plus combination of keys. This will switch the computer's clock speed from the standard 4.77 MHz to 7.16 MHz, propelling the software along almost twice as fast as with the IBM PC that the Panasonic computer emulates. An indicator light on the keyboard reminds the user what speed is being used. There are also indicator lights for Caps Lock, Num Lock and Printer.

All in all, Panasonic's Exec. Partner with its truly remarkable display could, with a removable printer and a few refinements, give transportable companies such as KayPro and Compaq a real run for their money.
