Auto Union DKW 1962

1962 DKW Auto Union 1000S

I had planned to restore this but due to a change in circumstances I hope there is someone out there who can take over and put this fabulous car back on the road where it belongs.

This is a very interesting car with a water cooled 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine of 981cc. 50 B.H.P @ 4500rpm. It is quite a large car for its engine size being 4222mm long and weighing 925kg. Even so it was surprisingly fast for its day being capable of cruising at 80+ mph or 135kph. I have never run engine while I have owned it and it appears to have been off the road since 1979. Engine turns over and vehicle seems to be 100% complete. All tires hold air.

Car is in better nick than photos suggest as there are no rust holes that I can find, all visible rust being surface only. Chrome has suffered over time and will need redoing. Interior is very good but very dirty/dusty and would I think be quite usable when cleaned. Headlining ok too but stained. Door trims all good but armrests need repair. Lovely white steering wheel and instruments are all excellent. Car is still in its original colour of Orange with White roof. It will look stunning when finished. Everything still opens and shuts as new. This car is beautifully made.

I have the original handbook in its plastic cover and original ownership papers.

Features period driving lights and reverse light. Also has a tow bar.

Bodywork is mostly very straight with only a couple of minor scrapes and a small dent on right rear guard. Left rear guard has a bigger dent.

I did some research on parts availability for this. Nearly all parts are available though many items would need to be sourced overseas. Not so much of a problem with the internet these days.
