Description
In the oppressive world of the Victorian middle class, wives and daughters were expected to live as respectful cabbages and always obey papa's dictates. The Draper family - father, mother and their two daughters - were no exception. Given virtually no education, discouraged from independent striving and rigidly separated from 'undesirable' and social contacts, Marion Draper has much to rebel against. High spirited and intelligent, the squashing of her naural personality led to inevitable consequences - an illicit friendship with a young man which quickly developed into a passionate love affair. After a traumatic series of events, her lover is revealed in his true worthless light. Breaking free of him, she has a glimpse of real freedom and emancipation; but the sight is illusory and she struggles, like a pinned butterfly, against destiny's grip. Published by Coronet Book/Hodder Paperbacks Ltd Reasonable condition.
