The DK guides contain a good mix of historical information and practical guidance, and the graphics are excellent (I keep my travel guides as souvenirs so I can remember all the things I did on my trips and their pictures are usually better than mine.) The writing is interesting and informative - not too technical and not too "touristy". For the Singapore edition, the mapping, directions and information are particularly helpful and accurate. Singapore is not a large place but it has a lot of things to do and see, so it is important to have a guide that breaks things down into specific geographic sections as well as into subject matter. "What you get with this book is an overview of some of the great things about Singapore, as well as some really interesting side things to see and do that you most likely wouldn't think of - which is where I give this book credit. I ended up going to the Chinese garden many times thanks to this book letting me know about it, along with going to Pulau Ubin - a nice island to the north east of the mainland. While this book isn't exhaustive in the information, it is a quick to pick up and easy to read guide with wonderful pictures and layout. I'm very happy I bought it."
