Singapore Tragedy. Stanley Field. 1943 1st edition. Angus and Robertson, Sydney.
The author, a New Zealander, was working in Malaya as an Income Tax Officer. He describes the country before and after the Japanese invasion. Japanese planes bombed and sank British ships; civilians were bombed or machine-gunned down; looting was rife.
After his escape to Singapore, Field tells of the bombing of the city by Japanese planes. After trying to enlist in the RNZAF but being turned down because of Regulations, he escaped by ship just before the Japanese invasion.
232pp; hard covers; very good condition; name fep; original Bookseller’s stamp ffep; two creased page corners; closed page edges browned. Inside very clean and tidy. Covers: tiny sunned patch spine head. Dust jacket; bad condition; front flap detached; large tears; small losses; pulls front and rear; spine sunned.
Scarce 1st edition.
