Description
Tested & working fine. I ended up with a bunch of these, and while I'd like to keep them for future projects, I need the money. This is the original version, not the '4k' intensity pro.
Were about $500 each in ~2009. Review(Mac, but same use as PC) from 2009(note that 1080p24 etc was added later though): http://www.lafcpug.org/reviews/review_bmd_intensitypro.html
These capture/record and output very good quality video and audio. Outputs could be good for monitoring. Captures up to 4:4:4(4:2:2 for HD) uncompressed, basically as good as possible.
Can capture & output: Composite(most common type, usually a yellow plug) video S-Video - used on S-VHS decks, Hi8 cameras, etc Component Video,no HD only standard PAL/NTSC (red, green, blue plugs) - , common on DVD players, Playstation2 & later, etc. HDMI (up to 1080p25 or 1080i50/60)
Can also output AES/EBU digital audio, which is used with professional devices.
Blackmagic devices seem to be somewhat fussy with compatibility - on my old PC they worked perfectly straight away in Windows XP, but couldn't get them working properly in Windows 11. Presumably this is because Windows XP was the most common OS when the cards were first sold. Up to at least Windows 7 is officially supported. Of course, this may vary depending on your particular computer, and may work fine with newer versions of Windows on your PC or Apple Mac desktop.
For S-Video you need an s-video plug to 2xRCA cable, but they seem common & cheap.
Supposedly these don't like 'messy' video signals such as from basic VCRs, though I tried it with a combo VCR/DVD that cleans up the signal from the VHS tape a bit internally & it worked perfectly - it dropped zero frames on a 45 minute recording. The quality was excellent. This wouldn't be an issue with games consoles, or any other digital device, as they always have clean video outputs. As with any video capture device, it's possible there might be issues with old cartridge based games consoles as they output video in unusual formats.
