Description
You are buying 3 Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) seedling with very sweet yellow flesh. They are planted in 2 litre pots and standing 32-38cm above the top of the rim.
This is a organic grown, yellow fleshed variety with super sweet flesh which is grown as a food crop for the markets in the Brisbane area of Aussie.
The jackfruit, also known as jack tree, jakfruit, or sometimes simply jack or jak is a species of tree in the mulberry and fig family. Jackfruit grows on trees and is oval shaped. The jackfruit is native to Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. They have a thick and prickly green skin. When the jackfruit is opened you find the round fruits contained in 'pockets' in a fibrous interior. The flesh is pale yellow and tastes sweet and has a sweet odor. The seeds are also edible and taste similar to chestnuts.
There are quite a few Jackfruit tree's spread from Auckland through Northland and I have heard on one that has fruited outdoors this season but generally they need a very well drained warm north facing spot. Definitely worth a try for all the tropical nuts out there.
Height: 2-6m (in time) Spread: 3-4m Hardy: Zone 10 (-1 once established)
