Description
Lewis McCallum is one of our most talented young musicians, coming up through the jazz scene before taking a left turn with his acclaimed debut album, 'Wake' - a favourite of Benji B, Domu, Paul Pre and many more!
'Syntheology' is the title of his highly anticipated new album and it is a meeting of two ideas: "synth" - meaning synthetic or artificial, and "theology" - referring to organic or philosophical ideas. This plays out on the album as the noted sax player McCallum uses a plethora of old and new synths and other computer generated sounds as raw materials, but throws them around with a swirling organic approach. 'Syntheology' also features guest vocal appearances from Francis Kora (Kora), Mara TK (Electric Wire Hustle), Tama Waipara, Cherie Mathieson (Mark de Clive-Lowe, Dego (4Hero)), Esther Stephens (Solaa) and Deva Mahal, from New York via the internet! Lewis McCallum has lent his considerable talents to many projects over the recent years, from jamming with Mark de Clive-Lowe in the early days, to being heavily involved in Julien Dyne's highly regarded solo album 'Pins & Digits' and the Opensouls debut album Kaleidoscope; as well as featuring as part of ex-Trinity Roots drummer Riki Gooch's "superband" Eru Dangerspiel. 'Syntheology' was written, produced and mostly played by McCallum. It is released on his own Finch label.
