Description
Stunning black and white photo print of the Morven Hills Bullocks in Kurow taking wool to Oamaru. Circa 1870's Morven Hills station used to be 300,000 acres from Lake Hawea, To clyde to Lindas Pass. The story behind this photo as a excerpt from the book Sixty Thousand on the Hoof by Peter Newton "For some years after the new homestead was built the wool still had to go out via the lindas pass. Even at that stage the station ust have been clipping anything up to 1,500 bales and this was a tremendous job. It was over 100 miles to Oamaru, with a big pull up over the pass, and in the days of the bullocks the return trip took three weeks or more. Old photographs show convoys of up to five wagons loaded with wool and each with twelve or fourteen bullocks."
39cmx28cm and framed under glass.
Other photo of the Hakataramea River is in another auction.
If you like great New Zealand art and photography such as Colin Wheeler, Whites Aviation or hand coloured vintage photos then this would make a really nice edition to your collection.
Can send NZ wide - will pack very well.
