This special auction is for this rare 1950's Pan-Pacific modernism floor lamp with the shade in the style and character of George Nelson's epic Bubble Onion Pendant shade contrasted and floating perfectly on a nice Black strong wrought iron atomic base.

This is an Extra large version bubble shade, in good vintage condition with no black rubber ring at top, the gallery holder in tact.

A mid 20th century American classic, the Bubble Lamp was first designed by George Nelson in 1947 and was produced by Howard Miller starting in the early 1950s and ending in 1979.

These types famous shades are part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. George Nelson was an American industrial designer, and one of the founders of American Modernism. While Director of Design for the Herman Miller furniture company both Nelson, and his design studio, George Nelson Associates, Inc., designed much of the 20th century's most iconic modernist furniture.

The Pan-Pacific modernist movement and style which integrated elements of Japanese, American, Australian and Pacific Island design is evident on this particular pendant shade.

Bubble Shade=43cm deep by 43cm wide by 50cm high. Base=54cm high by 43cm wide by 43cm deep. In good condition, no faults, no major rips, one small tears, only some fly poo and marks evident of age.
