Cane syrup was produced, packed & shipped by S.J. Gianelloni Jr, owner of Longwood Plantation, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Longwood Plantation was started by his father, Sabin J. Gianelloni, Sr., who lived from 1887-1942 & was from Cuba. In addition to the sugar cane fields, Longwood had a sugar factory, saw mill, & store

Although this label was produced well after the US Civil War, it is clear that there was much local nostalgia in the old South for life before the abolition of slavery. The image of the "black mammy" was still socially acceptable to be used in advertising
