If you have the Beswick Pottery book it has images of nearly all the hundreds of items they made over the years. NOT this one. This is a VERY rare Beswick item.
J. W. Beswick was a pottery manufacturer, founded in 1894 by James Wright Beswick in Stoke-on-Trent. They are chiefly known for producing high-quality porcelain figurines but they also made lovely tableware and have become highly sought after in the collectables market.
During the years of WW2, 1939-1945 the British War Cabinet needed exports to survive and limited all production for the domestic market. By 1945 nearly 80% of all production was being exported, mainly to the Dominions. That is why we have so much there in New Zealand. This has resulted in plenty of items to collect and at much lower prices than in the UK. This makes collecting these lovely pieces easy and bargains in NZ!
