Description
From my personal collection.
AUGUST 9 1923.
This ornate and lovely bank note was issued by the Imperial German Government in 1923. It is a prime example of German Inflation currency with the mind-boggling denomination of 1 MILLION Marks!!!
Just imagine the shock felt by the average citizen compelled to pay millions of Marks for something that had cost just a handful of Marks if not Pfennigs (pennies) a short while before!!
This note was issued in Berlin and has the signatures of 12 different Reichsbank (Imperial Central Bank) Directors flanked by Imperial Eagles. Safety in numbers? This note also has a beautiful watermark in the paper!
Finally, each has an anti-counterfeiting clause threatening would-be offenders with jail, as counterfeiting could only undermine an already precarious financial situation.
Hold history in your hand and savor the beauty of a 1923 German inflation bill.
