Description
A scarce note that was actually issued by mistake. Towards the end of the Hardie type 2 note issue it was understood that the replacement note system was coming to an end and the new Russell note issue wouldn't have any. To say that collectors were surprised to find 'star' Russell $5 and $10 notes in circulation would be an understatement. Somehow printing instructions were misunderstood and we now have the two denominations with stars that were never meant to be. The $10 had a lower mintage than the fives - just 102,800 which is very low for a common circulating denomination like the $10. Not seen that often now, and this is a nice one. Light stain top right otherwise grades almost EF. Catalogue value EF $180.
