UP FOR AUCTION: A CHILD'S SOUVENIR COIN ISSUED TO COMMEMORATE THE VIST OF THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF CORNWALL TO NEW ZEALAND. ON THE OBVERSE IS THE HMS OPHIR THAT THEY TRAVELLED ON. IT ARRIVED IN NEW ZEALAND ON 11TH JUNE 1901.
THIS COIN IS THE RARER OF THE TWO TYPES ISSUED AS THERE IS NO SMOKE COMING FROM THE BOAT'S STACKS.
WE HAVE THE SAME TWO COINS UP FOR SEPARATE AUCTION - THIS ONE IS VERY DIRTY, BUT WOULD COME UP CLEAN WITH A BIT OF VINEGAR.
