This is quite big, the bowl itself is 19.5 cms diameter and it measures 9 cms tall with the lid on. The wood is light weight, medium coloured and has an open grain. The top is carved with typical Japanese scenes. There is a split in the wood at the lip of the bowl and a chip from the rim - both visible in photos. Besides that there are a couple of very small flakes of paint missing from the black painted edge. This dates from the 1920's, it was bought in Japan and taken to England before coming to NZ in the 1950's.
