Description
Really unusual piece of jewellery.
Genuine silver plate, see pic of spoon side of the sugar tongs where some of the plate has rubbed off to reveal base metal which looks brass-like.
Engraved with initials 'CK'.
At the point of the engraving and where the tongs would previously have been bent there is a small break visible in last pic about 2mm long.
I have tried to date this using hallmarks (pictured) and it is late 1800 to early 1900. The 'F&S' hallmark indicates the jeweler Fattorini & Sons who were located in West and North Yorkshire at that time. The 'A1' mark indicates the highest quality mark for silver plate.
Other hallmarks were a Maltese cross which I couldn't find a meaning for and a crown which may indicate made in Sheffield. Also contain two initials in an oval which could be the maker.
Lots of history here and a piece of unique jewellery. I wore this every day for many years and it is quite a conversation starter.
