Description
Clay tempering is a art for as well as a science. The traditional clay tempering techniques are perhaps the pinnacle of Japanese sword design. The resulting clay tempering produces an edge hardness of 60HRC while the spine remains at softer 40HRC. This means that the edge is more resilient to dulling (its is very sharp!) while the spine is able to flex whilst cutting targets, allowing maximum force without breakage. The blade is fully hand polished to a mirror shine and sharpened to an impeccable standard.
The tsuka (handle) is wood with real sting ray skin, tightly bound in black cotton ito (braid) with brass dragon menuki. The chunky sageo is black heavy gauge silk. The matching cast brass Fuchi and Kashira (handle fittings) feature maple leaf designs. And the tsuba (hand guard) is our ever popular sunburst design. The saya is finished with high gloss blood red lacquer featuring brass cherry blossom inlay.

I have noticed that there are a number of traders on trademe who make a false claims about their swords regarding, the steel grades, materials and hamon temper-lines. They get away with this as many people do not know the difference. The fact is you are not going to fined 1095 katana with Hamon for half this price. Experienced collectors/ martial-artists know this. Honestly and integrity are fundamentals of my business. Seven years in sword sales and imports. Superior Swords Ltd continues to be a leader in real handforged katana.
