Description
This beautiful pendant is handcrafted by the seller, Murray Anderson, from AUTHENTICATED NGAI TAHU kawakawa pounamu.
In 1997 the New Zealand government returned to the Ngai Tahu elected tribal council ownership of all naturally occurring pounamu within their tribal area.
Kawakawa is a strong dark to rich green with varying intermediate shades. The name was derived from the colour of kawakawa leaves. This is a stylised version of the toki or Adze. Hei toki had much meaning to the Maori, it was an essential tool for the survival and day to day life of a Maori tribe, fashioned from greenstone. The Maori also attribute the spiritual meaning of strength, power determination, control, and focus. It gives confidence and the ability to gain mastery over different aspects of life.
This stunning piece is 75mm long and 20mm wide and hangs by a black coloured waxed adjustable cord.
I have hand Polished and lightly oiled it with manuka oil.it has a beautiful swirling patterns visible within the deep green stone. Authenticated pounamu gift box included.
Most of the jade and greenstone products manufactured in New Zealand are made from raw stone that is imported from overseas – many carved jade pieces sold in New Zealand are manufactured in China.
Much of this product is sold under the impression that it is genuine New Zealand Greenstone, or Pounamu carved by New Zealand artisans.
All Ngai Tahu Authenticated pounamu shows the Ngai Tahu Pounamu registered trademark and a unique traceability code, that when entered online, identifies the origin and whakapapa (geneaology) of the stone, how it was extracted and processed and who the artist was that carved it. The unique traceability code is your guarantee that your product is authentic and creates an unbroken chain from the legal collection on the riverbed to the carvers workshop and into your hands.
Each piece comes with its own card and unique traceability code.
