Checkmate is a very lustrous ribbon yarn which is most unusual. Made in Italy.

New Zealanders have been slow to use ribbons for knitting, but, if you want to make something few others do, then this is the yarn to start with. It is very rewarding.

The ribbon is about 10mm wide, but it narrows in places. It is an open-weave, checked design, which changes colour randomly. Then it narrows randomly into a solid ribbon in places. The results of your knitting change according to the number of stifches you use. You get patches of colour rather than stripes. Sometimes a block of colour will run down the garment.

Use it to make a distinctive scarf on big needles, use it as embellishment on a garment, or use it as a highlight with other yarns.

Lovely colours in this yarn. It is truly striking in the ball and when made up into something. People ALWAYS comment on it.

The pink multi ball is much prettier than in the photograph, but the other colours are good.

You can see how it knits up like lace without the fancy stitches. The yarn does it all. This one is all plain stitches, making it so very easy to make something stunning.
