Description
The tiny sultanate of Occussi-Ambeno issued this set of stamps in 2010 to call attention to World Anti-Hepatitis Day.
Hepatitis is one of the most widespread medical conditions, and involves inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis may occur with limited or no symptoms, but often leads to jaundice, anorexia, and malaise. A group of viruses known as the hepatitis viruses cause most cases of hepatitis worldwide, but it can also be due to toxins (notably alcohol, certain medications and plants), other infections and autoimmune diseases. For many years, hepatitis was thought to be incurable, but since 2001, interferon has been used successfully in its treatment.
The designs:
15 cents ... Hepatitis A.
45 cents ... Hepatitis C.
90 cents ... Hepatitis B.
$3 ... A syringe filled with interferon.
