“The art in these works is going back to basics, dividing the spectrum, creating a kaleidoscope in using basic colours contrasting each other.’

I believe this was originally a four part piece, titled "An Essay in Four Parts".

These pieces work excellently as a duo.

Schoenauer is known for his Lyrical Abstract Expressionism style, and paintings which exhibit skillful use of texture colour and composition.

An ambitious artist who explored the boundary between painting and sculpture, Schoenauer’s works look exceptional on a stark background, or to enhance the tones of a room.

A German Born New Zealand Artist who began exhibiting in 1969 during his study at the University of Cologne, and consistently exhibited locally with from 1984-2003, including exhibitions he shared with the likes of Dean Buchanan.

Translations of early German articles on the up and coming painter suggested his paintings were “full of dreamlike aesthetics, on one side contrasting, but always in harmony, without contradictions. His painting style... radiates inner peace… there is not much more art can give”.

He was also celebrated in the media in New Zealand: “Peter’s work is truly international and can hold its own on the world stage. His works have been installed in collections in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the USA, as well as here in New Zealand”.
