ABSOLUTE BARGAIN FOR 130 YEAR OLD ART- CIRCA 1890

"Kelby's Creek, West Coast Road"

Titled verso. A Aldis carved in frame verso.

390 x 600mm artwork only. Frame +90mm

Condition: Very good considering great age.

Provenance: Collection of I Napier.

Allan Aldis and his brother Albert Edward Aldis were both born in Kentish Town, London about 1870. Arrived in Auckland when their father W Steadman Aldis took a position as Professor of Mathematics at Auckland university CollegeExhibited landscapes in oils and a portrait with Auckland Society of Arts 1887-89.

It is difficult to disentangle A Aldis from his brother A E Aldis. Listed as Auckland artists E. & A. Aldis 1890-91 Wise's.

Paintings signed A Aldis are in Auckland Art Gallery and Hocken.
