Many know of New Zealand icon Karl Sim aka Goldie with his exploits over the years. His career involved well drilling, wine brewing, auctioneering and more, but most importantly as an artist, a notorious art forger. Many amazing art works came out of the small town of Foxton with signatures of Rita Angus, John Weeks, Hotere, Petrus van der velden, Colin McCahon and many more. Things caught up with Karl Sim eventually and art was seized and a court case was underway in the 80s. He was convicted for "uttering", fined and did community service (including doing murals on public buildings - the irony). After the court case, Karl changed his name by deedpoll to C F Goldie.

How the whole putting signatures to paintings started I don't have the time or space to explain here, but Goldies book 'Good as Goldie' details it all, and it's a fantastic read.

I was lucky enough to have spent quite a bit of time with Goldie over the past 10 or more years, getting his art out there, I was his "internet girl". He was a hard case, a NZ icon and a friend. He would turn up at my house with a cooked chicken under one arm, and paintings under the other. I definitely miss those visits, and the tall tales that came with him.

Anyway, back to the listings I guess. The paintings/drawings I will be listing are the very last of works Goldie left with me for sale and safekeeping. Funds that would have gone to Goldie will be donated at the request of his family to the New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society which opposes vivisection on the grounds of medical and scientific fraud.
