Marianne Muggeridge is a full-time painter who originally trained at Elam school of art (1970-3). She lives with her partner Roger Morris between Taranaki and Wellington. Muggeridge is a two time winner of the NZ Portrait Award (2000 and 2002) and a retrospective exhibition of her work was held at the NZ Portrait Gallery in 2013.

Muggeridge learned her screenprinting technique from Michael Smither initially to make posters for her brother Steve's 1980s band, Banana Republic.

"Printmaking allows me to take my paintings through a different process. I usually start with 40 clean sheets of paper and end up with an edition of around 20, losing prints on the way to bad registration, accidents with ink, colours, shapes and ideas that don't work. An edition typically takes me several years to complete.

"Each colour is a separate stencil making process. I make the stencils with melted hot fat, painting directly onto the screen. The oil based inks are becoming difficult to source. This is no longer a commercial process and the inks now being made are mostly water based. Small edition, fine art printmaking, using oil based inks, is a dying art!"
