Description
Peter Bush is a living legend in New Zealand photojournalism and a figure of world renown in his specialist field of rugby photography. Amazingly enough, that statement only scratches the surface of a remarkable life. Imbued with a spirit of adventure and an independent streak thanks to his upbringing on the wild West Coast, he set off to see the world on an English tramp steamer, eventually arriving in England on the first German ship to berth in the West Country since before World War II. At times his life story reads like a 'Boy's Own' adventure: frightening storms at sea; stowaways and escaped lunatics; stranded and starving in the most inaccessible part of Fiordland; hunting in the Kalahari Desert and exploring a ghost town on Africa's most inhospitable coast; close encounters with the French Foreign Legion, the SAS, and Communist secret police; man-eating tigers and charging bull elephants…. His long involvement with rugby has given him a unique perspective on our national game. His long career in the news business has brought him into contact with an extraordinarily colourful cast of characters - this is a riveting and hugely entertaining memoir. Paul Thomas has authored the autobiographies of All Black legends Tana Umaga and John Kirwan, also John Hart and John Wright. He is also the author of A Whole New Ball Game as well as novels and short stories.
