"Over several years Michelle Moir travelled through both the North and South islands photographing and interviewing a diverse range of women who live and work in rural New Zealand. The result is a combination of photographic portraits and interviews that reflects the realities of New Zealand country life through the eyes of these women. Each woman was photographed and interviewed in her own surroundings, providing a rich contrast of environments and lifestyles. Some are within a few minutes' drive of their neighbours or nearest town; others are in remote locations, depending on modern technology to keep them in touch with the world. Much more than a photography book, it pays tribute to the women who, while often not seen or heard, have over succeeding generations played such an important role in defining this country's rural heritage."
