The true account of the hijacked Ethiopian Airways Boeing 767 jet that cartwheeled into the Indian Ocean when the plane ran out of fuel after circling for five hours, killing 127 people, in November 1996.
The three hijackers had ignored the pilot’s warning that the plane was running out of fuel and that they should land at a nearby airport.
Fortunately, Flight 961 hit the ocean close to shore and tourist and staff from the beach of a hotel raced out to help rescue the survivors.
The tail section of the aircraft rocked in the surf and the other parts of the wreckage sank beyond a reef about 500 yards from shore.
Two survivors of the 175 on board, high-powered British music industry professionals, tell their amazing story.
There is an introduction by another survivor, Church of England envoy BritonTerry Waite, CBE, who was held hostage in Lebanon from 1987-91.
Katie and Lizzie had abandoned the London rat race and set off to travel the world. They wanted to absorb different cultures, learn different values and reassess their lives.
In the end they got more lessons in life than they had bargained for. Plunged into a nightmarish terrorist hijacking, they were among the few to survive such a tragic hijack.
This is their story - of friendship and danger, struggle and death.
Hijack: Our Story of Survival by Lizzie Anders and Katie Hayes is a first edition published by Andre Deutsch, London, in 1998. It is a 212-page 14.5x22cm hard cover with an excellent dust jacket.
