"Where The Prize is Highest" Hardbound Book. Published by Collins in 1972. Ex Library with the usual library marks. The book is in reasonable condition. "By the end of WWII 28 New Zealanders had been awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest military honour for gallentry. The first was won in the NZ land wars of the 1860s by Charles Heaphy, the second in the conflict in South Africa by William James Hardham in 1901, 18 were awarded in WWI, the others in the 1939-45 war --- where a Kiwi soldier won the only VC and Bar. The author presents a pen portrait, and a portrait, of each recipient, describes the action leading to the award and brief detail of the citation.
