Description

Titled Columba Princeps. A sub species of the New Zealand Kereru. Hunted into extinction in the early 1840s. It was called the New Zealand pigeon by early settlers on Norfolk. Engraved by Scottish engraver Lizars after a painting by the famous Victorian bird artist Edward Lear. Original hand coloured with gumarabic highlighting. An exceptionally rare ornithological art piece. Plate size 305 x 225 mm.
