Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a naturally occurring, siliceous sedimentary rock. DE consists of fossilized remains of diatoms.

It is used as a filtration aid, mild abrasive in products including toothpaste, absorbent for liquids, matting agent for coatings, reinforcing filler in plastics and rubber, anti-block in plastic films, porous support for chemical catalysts, cat litter and activator in blood clotting studies.

DE is used in agriculture for grain storage as an anticaking agent. It is approved by the United States Department of Agriculture as a feed supplement to prevent caking. Some farmers add it to their livestock and poultry feed to prevent the caking of feed. DE is acceptable as an anti caking agent for livestock.

On the farm, wherever animals & pets are present, dog kennels, in chicken coops - great for residual mite control in poultry housing
