Don't try and compare the Mistral with any general consumer CD player, as there is no comparison. This player has served me well for a few years. I'm just not using it currently for what it should be used for. If you want a CD player to make your crap warehouse recordings sound good, then I'd suggest getting some cheap Japanese player. If you have well engineered and produced recordings on CD that you want the sound reproduced truthfully, the Mistral will do an admirable job for a small sum.
