Description
Bhutan fishtail palm, 3m+ in 500 litre bag. A clustering palm producing long arching fronds to 3m. From the Himalayas at 1400 -2100 metres altitude, and will reportedly take several degrees of frost without damage. They will not develop much of a trunk, and apparently don't get to much more than six metres overall. They have attractive silvering on the back of the fronds, so would look amazing at night when lit from below. There are also fascinating black fibres around the trunks. No spines.
After each stem flowers, it will slowly deteriorate and die over several years, like bromeliads do. In the meantime some of the smaller stems will have grown up to replace it. It is only a five minute job to remove the old stem, and at no stage does the plant look "naked." These plants are over twelve years old and show no sign of flowering as yet. They are amongst the oldest in NZ.
Excellent condition, minor leaf damage from wind (Onehunga is very windy), but they will resist this better once planted. Amazing plants, with a ton of character.
Price is per plant. They require a truck or tandem trailer to move. We can have a forklift available to load it, and can advise and assist with planting and after-sales service if desired. 25 years of experience in transplanting and landscaping with mature palms. Pick up is in Onehunga.
