To raise money for the protection of the Whio (or Blue Duck), Kai Waho and Tongariro River Rafting have come together to offer a one-off opportunity for a group of four people to embark on a journey of discovery.

You will drive through Poronui to the Mohaka River, spend a day rafting down to the Mangatainoka Hot Springs where you will set up camp and spend the night, then you will raft out the next day. Time will be spent talking about traditional cooking methods, using the natural environment and the tools available within it, and then you will be practicing these techniques for yourselves. You will enjoy a ‘real’ stone grilled lunch, learn how to make a 2-3 course meal using no pots and pans, look at sustainable eel fisheries, and be shown how to catch an eel or a fish without a hook, and learn the art of the hangi.

This is a one-off opportunity that is not usually for sale and you won’t find it available again.

All money raised from this auction will go to the Blue Duck Project to buy traps for predators to help protect the Blue Duck on the Ripia River.
