Alfa romeo 156 GTA 2002

Alfa Romeo 156 GTA NOT RUNNING! Has a blown gear box Ill do my best to explain the car. 3 years ago the cambelt went and I spent about $10000 fixing it (new valves etc). About 2 years later I has backing out of the drive and had the steering on hard lock, when I started driving straight I heard a bang and it felt like it jammed for a second in the front left wheel. I kept driving and it seamed ok. Then next time i took it out it did it again and when i got home i noticed oil on the garage floor. So i took it in to a mechanic and he told me that the gear box and put a tooth though the casing. He said a need a new gearbox. I found some info on a forum that said it was most likely the diff. I had a guy tell me that you can take it out and if the box isn't too bad you can replace the diff and weld up the cracked gearbox. I brought a second hand diff and had plans on taking the box out to have a look. However im not mechanical at all, so last august I dropped it off to a English mechanic who was going to look at it in his spare time. He got as far as disconnecting everything from the box before he badly hurt his back. It stayed there because he thought he would get better, however he didn't. So I brought it home and have decided to sell it. Please note that im not saying that the gearbox is able to be fixed. I got told it might be possible and was only getting the gearbox taken out to have a look at it. It might need a another one.. It also has a dent in the one of the back doors and the light cleaners have been chowed by a puppy.
