Description
Up for sale is my lovely late 1930s/early 1940s cloud badge 7"x14" Slingerland Radio King snare drum. This is a single ply maple shell with reinforcing rings. Nickel plated brass top and bottom hoops with stamped top hoop. Some of the tension rods have been replaced but otherwise very original condition. The drum has been stripped and cleaned throughout and comes with a fairly new Aquarian American Vintage head.
This is quite an unusual snare because it has the earlier throw mechanism but not the snare extension brackets. There are no extra holes in the shell which is finished in the original Duco paint. As is often the case, the paint is chipped from normal use but that simply adds to the patina of authenticity and not uncommon on an 80 year old drum!
This is one of the quintessential classic US snare drums by Slingerland and made famous by players such as Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. Whether you're a collector or a player, you'll struggle to find a better sounding drum. Selling because need to make space for other interesting old drums. If you've been thinking about buying one from the US then save your self a few hundred dollars on US shipping costs and NZ import duty.
A very simlar recent example of this drum sold on Ebay for over NZ$2,000
