Since the release of the original Kaossilator, many people have got down with the ease of use of the XY powered synths and drums, great sound and easy unlimited looping. But most of us tired of the destructive nature of the beast, which was everytime you turned it off you lost your work.

So Korg has come back with an updated model, which addresses this particular point, and then proceeds to bludgeon us over the head with a massive upgrade.

The key points:

• 150 sounds. A few old favourites, but many great new sounds, and finally a good selection of slow attack pads etc.
• 50 Gate Arpeggiator patterns. Lots of rhythmic power here, plus swing and gate time adjust. A handy visual reference is displayed on screen to easily know what each rhythm is.
• 2 bank looping. This is amazing, you can build up 2 unlimited loops, and a handy crossfader is incorporated to mix between them. Loop input source is internal sounds, internal microphone or external input or mic.
• SD card storage. So you can constantly record your performance onto SD card, and listen to an extended jam, or you can use it to play back MP3s (card not included).
• OEL screen. Gone is the basic 3 character screen, replaced with a lovely and compact graphic screen to display sound names, the mix interface, gates, options etc.

So this is a massive leap, even smaller than before allowing more single handheld operation. In particular i really love the was many sounds now have attack envelope phase accessible from the Y axis. Loving it!
